Glimpsing Light is run by Rebekah, a papercut artist, illustrator and printmaker in Manchester. Much of her work is botanical and inspired by nature, but also by her faith and the promises of God. She creates intricate hand-drawn and hand-cut papercuts, lino prints, screen prints, cards and gifts.‎

Hello! My name is Rebekah and I’m a papercut artist, illustrator and printmaker. I live just North of Manchester, with my husband and two lovely children, in a town full of old mills and red brick houses.

One of my favourite things is noticing little glimpses of hope in broken places; like little flowers peeking through cracks in an alleyway wall. My heart is always searching it out and finding joy here, and consequently this seeps into my artwork. We also live near to vast countryside and I Iove hearing the air filled with bird song and watching for the blossom or wild flowers to appear each year. I find much beauty and rest and consolation here, as it stills my soul and reminds me of God’s loving care for us, so my work is often botanical and themed around nature.

I’ve always loved drawing and photography, but first started papercutting around 17 years ago during a sustained time of illness. I quickly grew to love sketching out designs and cutting away little pieces of paper to create something new, and enjoy the slow steady process of hand-cutting each piece with a scalpel, or carving out designs in lino and hand-printing, so each one is individual.

I have also learnt to use art therapeutically, and as a way to meditate on and cling to the promises of God, especially through years of illness. It is my hope that my art can act as an encouragement for others too, and that by His grace, it all points to Him; as our sustainer, comforter, source of joy, and the God who is forever with us.
