"Tikvah" is a Hebrew word for hope, but it is also used as the word for the red cord in the the story of Rahab helping the Israelite spies escape (in the book of Joshua.) The word tikvah suggests more than just wishful thinking or waiting for something good to happen, but an active and confident anticipation for the future, the tension between now and what comes next, being tethered to a steadfast foundation like an anchor.
