Meet the Maker
After the birth of my first son, I found the juggle of motherhood had disorientated some of my time with the Lord and I no longer had those luxurious uninterrupted prayer times each day. One day I felt prompted to write a simple prayer about washing up, and stick it above my kitchen sink. Something I could pray when I simply did not have the energy to find my own words.
Each day as I washed a few dishes, I loved reading that prayer and savouring a moment in God's presence. Where before I may have been daydreaming, worrying or busying myself - now I was still and at peace.
I started Trestle By Freya from my dining table ( a trestle table, if you're wondering) - writing simple prayers for the everyday moments of life, with the hope that they fill people with courage, faith and peace. Life can be so busy and often overwhelming, and sometimes we forget to invite God into our everyday chaos. I have always loved drawing, and I found adding simple illustrations brought some beauty, joy and fun to my pieces.
As my business grew, I began receiving some amazing commissions from people needing a liturgy for a specific moment or loved one. Many of these commissions are where these prints started - made for someone who loved espressos or running or hated folding laundry.
I would describe my artistic style as simple, minimalist and understated. A 'less is more' approach. I hope the prayers speak for themselves and truly my prayer is that people connect with these words, and in turn connect with God. Each piece I create, I ask God to guide me, to help me communicate His heart and His words of scripture.
Each piece is hand written and drawn, scanned and digitised and printed with an amazing printer in Leeds, UK.
