Meet the Maker
Poema began back in 2011 when God spoke this word into my heart. It is, I'm told, the Latin translation of the word used in Ancient Greek for ‘I create’.
In Ephesians 2:10 it is the word translated as ‘masterpiece’ or ‘work of art’.
It was at a time when I believe God was directing me into a more creative form of worshiping Him. When I came to the realisation that God had gifted me this ability to make things which bring encouragement and a smile to my friends’ faces. In turn, by making these gifts, I feel the Lord smiling on me and in the words of Eric Liddell “…I feel His pleasure.”
I trusted that it was a reminder that this was intrinsically part of me. That God had knitted this into me and it was ok to explore how to use it for Him. Beginning with some beaded bracelets inspired by the word of God, my jewellery-making journey began.
I remember hearing this word ‘Poema’ at a conference and it had a marked impact on me. It resonated deep within my heart. Having loved this scripture for a long while, I underlined it, adding the words ‘I’m God’s work of art!’ beside it.
I do not flatter myself that any of the jewellery I make is a masterpiece or work of art in the world's eyes. The message I hope to convey is that each one of us is made in God's image and therefore, each one of us is His creation; His work of art; His POEMA. Each of us unique, handcrafted and deeply loved by our Father God.
Fast forward to 2018 after a season of significant loss and sadness, I craved something new and exciting. I didn't know what the new and exciting 'thing' would be, so after a consultation with Google, I found myself signed up to a 2 hour taster session learning to use silver clay. That led to a 5 week course when I was pretty much hooked!
I quickly followed this with learning more traditional jewellery making (soldering, sawing, stone setting etc) which has led me to the designs I create now: lovingly crafted jewellery with the word of God at the heart of each piece.
